Brown Art Gallery Presents: Ann Rhodes

Brown Art Gallery Presents: Ann Rhodes
Surface
October 29-December 10

Biographical Sketch
Ann Rhodes received a BA in painting from Queens College and an MA in Art History from Georgia State University. Enriched by teaching in colleges in the Atlanta area, she maintains a studio/gallery at the Tula Art Center. She is represented by 7 galleries in the southeast. Celebratory landscapes are the focus of Rhodes’ work. The painting is formed by personal response to nature’s light and color, underlying geometry and muscularity.

Artist Statement
The still water of a pond is a flat surface like the canvas, but there is action beneath the surface, reflection and shadow on the surface, buds and blossoms pushing up through the surface from the reeds and much below. Using oil sticks and layers of paint makes a vibrant, painterly surface.
